WITH just over a year until the Olympic Games, the Derbyshire Dales is going for gold with a free family fun sports day at Carsington Water on Wednesday, July 27.
Each district of Derbyshire has its own Village Games officer to help local people set up sporting activities on their doorstep in the run up to London 2012 and beyond.
You could say Derbyshire Dales Village Games Officer Katy Stubbs is a sporting ‘Jim’ll Fix It’ helping local people set up clubs, training sessions and activities.
She has organised a day of taster sessions and demonstrations where people can have a go at everything from football to archery, parachute games to sumo suits and Ju-Jitsu. There will also be an inflatable football table, crafts, face painting and dance sessions as well as a barbecue.
In addition, there will be sit-on-top and double-seated kayaks, Canadian three-person canoes and five-person rowing boats to hire and people can have a go on the climbing wall next to the water sports centre.
The event runs from 10am-3pm. For more details about the event go to www.peaksanddalesolympiclegacy.co.uk
