Matlock CC’s prestigious ten-mile club championship time-trial took place on Tuesday night.

It was one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the season so far, as two of Matlock’s top time-triallists, who have been in incredible form of late, went head to head for the championship trophy.

Patrick Gould, having broken the course record earlier in the season, set off at a ferocious pace and maintained a speed close to 28mph to record a time of 21 minutes and 47 seconds – just a handful of seconds off his record.

However, Leigh Fearn was determined to take the win, and did do, smashing Gould’s course record with a superb time of 21 minutes and 28 seconds to win the trophy, leaving Gould in second place.

Third place went to Dave Wallwin, who also dipped under 22 minutes for the first time, recording 21:56.

Last year’s ten-mile champion Gareth Ferguson, set a season’s best time in his attempt to defend his title, finishing well up the field in fifth place overall on 22:41
