A clean sheet for victorious Sports

MATLOCK Sports recorded their first clean sheet of the Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division season on Saturday during the course of their 5-0 victory over Holbrook St Michael’s.

Dan Bridge (two), Steve Pardey, Joss Timmins and Lee Boden were on the scoresheet for a side that had previously shipped 59 goals this season.

League leaders Allenton United suffered their third defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 at home to Mickleover RBL. The visitor scored Allenton’s goal for them.

None of the teams chasing top spot profited though as Cromford lost 1-0 to Wirksworth Town, Rowsley 86 lost 6-0 at Melbourne Dynamo and Derby Royals and Swanwick Pentrich Road played out a 1-1 draw.

Ashover beat Chellaston 3-0 while Willington went down 6-1 to the ever-improving Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure.

In Division One, Steve Burrell scored for Woolley Moor United and Simon Breamer for Punjab United in their 1-1 draw.

In the only Division Two match to be played, Wirksworth Town Reserves beat Pastures Reserves 4-2. Jack Currell (two), Andy Brown and Joe Bradbury banged in the Wirksworth goals.

There were a number of all-MRA clashes in the first round of the Derbyshire FA Junior Cups with Allenton United Reserves beating Ambergate 2-1 in the south section.

In the one match involving MRA teams in the north section, Wirksworth Ivanhoe won 1-0 at Rowsley 86 Reserves with Ben March scoring the only goal of the game.
