IT was a very good weekend for local teams in the Ripley and Heanor area.
Heanor Town won 5-0 at Greenwood Meadows to maintain their top spot in the East Midlands Counties Football League.
The goals came from Nathan Benger on 33 minutes, Josh Royce on 35, Benger’s second of the game on 54, Jake Vernon on 74 and Nico Degirolamo on 84.
Ripley Town beat local derby visitors Bargate Rovers 2-0 thanks to goals from Steve Bayliss on 25 minutes and a belter from Jay Harrison on 70.
The win puts Paul Lavender’s side up to fifth in the table and they now have an outside chance of promotion.
