Albion march confidently into another final

Wirksworth Albion marched confidently into their second final of the Matlock & District Football League season as they triumphed 3-1 over Woodthorpe Rovers on Saturday.

High scoring Laburnum Saints were in seventh heaven on the road with goals from Michael Charlton, Matt Mosley, Richard Austin, Matt Warren, Dave Whitworth and a double from Matt Haywood as they defeated Tansley 7-3 in one of just three League games.

Tansley’s Paul Mellor, Dan Jackson and Liam Toplis were on target for the Fete Field lads.

AFC Lea Holloway and Darley Dale Lions shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Lea Green.

Midfield maestro Shaun Bott grabbed a brace for Holloway but should have had several more. Darley’s Martin French netted before Matt Alsop equalised to earn the visitors a point. Tibshelf produced a solid performance as they defeated rock bottom Harveys 3-1.

The home side’s strikes came from Danny Hough, Adam Rose and Josh Hardy while Harvey’s Tom Swift was on target.

This Saturday (April 9) sees the second Cavendish Cup Semi-Final when Riddings Rovers play hosts to Laburnum Saints.
