THE season may still have a couple of months to run but Wirksworth Colts Girls Under 15s are already looking ahead to the 2011-2012 campaign with a call being made for new players.
The team currently plays in the South Derbyshire Girls Under 15s League and is on the lookout for both new players and new sponsors.
The side is managed by David Armitt and the coaches are Bob Clarke and Pat Murphy. David will be replaced by Tirra Clarke next season – although he will stay on as a coach – and Tirra is keen to hear from girls in years nine and ten (13 years-plus) interested in joining the ranks.
Home games are played at Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth while training takes place on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm on the artificial turf pitch at the town’s leisure centre. All coaches are FA-qualified CRB-checked.
Tirra Clarke explained: “I feel we’ve got a rather a low profile and we want to send the message out that ‘we’re here so come along and join us’. We have invested in new equipment, we have good coaches and we feel there is plenty of talent out there that we would like to tap into, not just in the town but outside of it too.
“We are looking for new players including goalkeepers from years nine and ten and we are also looking for sponsors for an away kit and jackets, so if anyone is able to help us we would love to hear from them.
“If there are any football players interested in joining, all they need to do is come along on a Thursday night or ring one of the numbers below. We are a Standard Chartered club, committed to the FA Respect Campaign. We also have other teams at under 13s, under 11s and under nines levels so please get in touch.”
Tirra added that training sessions have been set up to take place before the end of the season with representatives from Derby County Ladies and Forest Ladies, at dates still to be arranged.
