Hayfield 2

Wirksworth Colts U12s Girls 3

With Hayfield being one of the new contenders in the division, it looked set to be a great game and the girls didn’t dissapoint.

it was end-to-end stuff from the kick off but with the strong defence of Dione Rapkin and Chelsea Elliott, Hayfield were kept at bay with the three in midfield for Colts, Emma Lawrence, Mia Lucas and Gracie Wilson, all passing really well.

It was Wilson who made a great run down the right wing and made an excellent low cross into the path of lone striker Becka Rippon who buried it in the top corner.

Hayfield made it 1-1 after half-time but with Lawrence and Lucas battling in midfield, it was Wilson with another great cross for Rippon to take the lead again.

Hayfield were now pushing forward hard but some brilliant saves from the star keeper Danielle Spencer kept Colts in front.

After a slip from Colts’ defence, Hayfield sneaked through to put the ball past the helpless keeper to make it 2-2 with only a minute to go.

Colts were resigned to the fact this was going to be a well-earned draw but eagle-eyed defender Elliott had different ideas when she spotted the keeper well off her line and hit an awesome 75-yard shot over her head which sneaked under the bar and into the net giving Colts the win and the best celebratin pile-on of the season .

Another hard choice had to be made for girl of the match after they all battled so hard but it had to go to Elliott for her stunning strike and last-minute winner.
