Wirksworth Colts U7 8

Darley Dale Juniors Hurricanes 1

IT was down to business again this week for the Colts as they found their shooting boots to beat the Hurricanes.

There was some composure in the midfield from Josh Taylor, Morgan Beech and Elliot Poplar, with textbook passing up front by Alexander Brough and Harry Phillips.

Showing smooth lines of attack, Colts forced a corner just before half-time, to be tucked away neatly by Brough’s left foot.

The Hurricanes responded with a goal creeping over the line.

Never one to miss an opportunity, Will Heron turned on a sixpence and hooked the ball into the back of the net at an astonishing angle to take the score to 2-1.

Another attempt by Darley in the remaining seconds of the first half was denied by the safe hands of William Warren in goal.

In the second half, teamwork prevailed between Thomas Wanford and Heron with an excellent lay-off, cleanly snatched and dispatched by Brough.

At this point, there was no stopping Heron, who found the back of the net three times to complete his hat-trick.

At 6-1, play remained in the Colts half, bar a couple of attempts from the Hurricanes, taken cleanly by Harry Dachtler in goal.

Adam Gill showed fresh legs charging down the right only to miss his target by a few inches. Growing in confidence, Elliot Poplar (man of the match) streamed past the defence to score his first goal, followed swiftly by his second.

With only a few matches remaining before Christmas, Colts continue their season in high spirits.
