Colts roll up their sleeves

Wirksworth Colts u8s 2

Brimwood u8s 2

Wirksworth started the game playing downhill with the wind and although they held a territorial advantage, it was Brimwood who broke away to open the scoring.

Colts held on to the majority of the play with Liam Bednall and Tom Wain combining well with Harrison Surgey, but were not able to create many clearcut shooting opportunities.

Sam Roberts controlled the wide area and his ball inside set Bednall off on a trademark run but he was hauled back by the shirt just as he broke through. He floated in the resulting free kick and Tom Dreuitt forced the Wingerworth defender into an error for the equaliser.

The second half saw Wirksworth take control as the ball had to be played on the floor to escape the effects of the wind and their usual passing game returned.

A speculative effort from long range snuck in at the Lewis Potts’s near post for Brimwood to take the lead once again. Wirksworth rolled up their sleeves and fought back hard with the tigerish tackling of Dan Charlton now controlling the midfield.

He played a lovely ball to Bednall who danced his way past two defenders and rifled the ball in for the equaliser.
