A DOUBLE header in glorious sunshine at Cavendish Fields on Saturday saw both Matlock Town Girls u11s and Wirksworth Colts Girls u11s give it their all.
In the first five minutes of the first game, Colts took the lead through a Georgia Winson strike from ten yards, calmly placed out of the keeper’s reach.
Two minutes later, Millie Roper struck from close range after good work from Amie Johnson. The third came soon followed through Winson’s 15-yard free kick.
Matlock were giving it their all on the counterattack but the Colts’ defence was in no mood to be beaten.
The fourth goal came from a thunderous strike from Johnson and just before the final whistle Winson wrapped up her hat trick with a curling free kick into the top corner.
The second game was a little different as Matlock really came out fighting, but it was Colts again who struck first after good work by Amie Johnson with a mazy run for Hollie Black to grab her first for the club with a half-volley into the roof of the net.
Wirksworth continued to press but were caught out with a defensive error as Matlock equalised. Both teams were running out of steam after a long morning, and the football turned a bit scrappy, until the last five minutes where Colts found a second wind and the ever-improving Black again struck from close range to give Wirksworth maximum points.
