CROMFORD FC managed to close the gap on Midlands Regional Alliance leaders Allenton United by two points on Saturday after a 4-2 win over Newmount.

Anthony Fay (two), Danny Wildegoose and Billy Lobley scored for Cromford while Allenton were drawing 2-2 with Derby Royals, results that opened up the title race again.

Third-placed Rowsley 86 appeared in trouble when they trailed Swanwick Pentrich Road 3-1 with ten minutes left. A late revival then saw them snatch victory at 4-3 with goals from Andy Roome, Tim Baker, Nick Baker and Simon O’Neill.

Matlock Town were the only one of the bottom four teams to win. They beat bottom side Sandiacre Town 2-0 with goals from Dan Bridge and Steve Pardey.

Ashover are another of the teams near the foot of the table. They lost 4-2 at Melbourne Dynamo while Wirksworth Town were beaten 1-0 by struggling Willington.

In Division Two, lowly Roe Farm picked up a 2-2 draw, only their third point of the season, in a game against Ambergate.
