With Aston United out of action this weekend, Stockbrook Rangers made the most of it as they topped the table after beating Wirksworth Town 3-1 in the Midlands Regional Alliance.
Goals from Danny O’Connell, Ashleigh Wickes and Stuart Legg ensured last season’s Division One runners-up moved to the summit of the Premier Division table at the expense of Aston United. Three weeks on from the start of the MRA season, Cromford finally kick-started their league campaign but it ended in disappointment after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Sandiacre Town.
Ady Kershaw and Scott Gascoigne got on the scoresheet for last season’s third place finishers, while George Wilkinson and Brad Mellors netted for the Saints.
Reigning champions Rowsley 86 bounced-back from last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Allestree with a 2-1 victory over a Bestwood Miners Welfare outfit that have now lost their last three league games. Reece Knight netted for Bestwood.
Wirksworth Ivanhoe got their first three points of the season as they enjoyed a 3-1 victory away at Little Eaton thanks to goals from Joe Redfern, Liam Sheldon and Vincent Kinder.
Elsewhere, Tibshelf got their season underway with a 2-2 home draw against Allestree, with Matt Walsh and Greg Thompson getting on the scoresheet for the Oilers.
In Division One, Rowsley 86 Reserves made it two wins on the trot after they secured a 4-0 victory over Wirksworth Town Reserves.
Matlock United enjoyed a 2-0 victory over Shirebrook Rangers courtesy of a Callum Gill penalty and effort from Dan Bridge.
Ripley Town ran out comfortable 4-1 winners at Newhall United Reserves thanks to a brace from Lewis Parkin along with goals from Paul Lavender and Mark Gotheridge.
Elsewhere, Matlock Town CFA got their first three points of the season since their promotion from Division Two after running out 3-1 winners at Stapleford Town.
Goals from Prince Pase, Alex Lacey and Michael Lettall secured the win for Matlock, while Darren Hart replied for Stapleford.
In Division Two, Shirebrook Rangers Reserves moved to the top of the table after securing a 3-0 victory at Wirksworth Ivanhoe Reserves.
Ripley Town Reserves picked up their first win of the season after beating Little Eaton Development 3-0 courtesy of a Joe Taylor double and effort from Danny Colbert.
In a ten-goal thriller at Chesterfield College Football Ground, Chesterfield Town enjoyed a 6-4 win over new boys Real Medina, while Ambergate and Sherwin Reserves played out a 2-2 draw with Chris Dring netting a brace for Ambergate.
Meanwhile, Punjab United and Willington Sports played out a 1-1 draw.
