Emphatic win for Tigers

Matlock Town Tigers U16s 6

Alfreton Town U16s 0

A STRONG defensive display by Matlock enabled them to record this emphatic win.

Kicking down the slope, Matlock’s midfield of Jamie Webster, James McDonald, Joe Goodwin and Ashley Billam had created several chances before Will Swift’s penalty opened the scoring.

Ewan Fisher and Matt Andrews were a constant menace to the Alfreton defence and Andrews had scored his hat-trick by half-time.

Alfreton had the advantage of the slope for the second half and set about trying to reduce the arrears but Matlock’s defence of Tom Atkinson, Sam Rowan, Jay Whitworth and Swift stood firm and when Alfreton did occasionally breakthrough they could not beat Nathan Briddock in Matlock’s goal.

As the second half progressed, the Tigers were still creating chances with some neat football.

Goodwin converting for Matlock’s fifth goal. Harris Lovatt bolstered Matlock defence for the last half an hour which allowed Whitworth to push into midfield.

He scored the sixth after an excellent flowing football move from Goodwin, Andrews, Fisher and Mark Little.
