Wirksworth Colts u12 Girls 2 Buxton Bullets 1
COLTS took on Bullets again for the second consecutive week, hoping to repeat the 5-1 win they secured last weekend.
Colts were expecting Bullets to come out on top form and, with three regulars missing, this was a very cautious start but with super subs Georgia and Aleisha Winson kindly on loan from Colts u11s, the twins had other ideas.
Colts were strong at the back with Dione Rapkin and Chelsea Elliott keeping Buxton’s front two at bay during the first half.
With some good midfield work by Becka Rippon and Gracie Wilson, Aleisha Winson opened the account from a great low cross from Wilson, that was driven into the bottom corner.
The second half kicked off in an extremely scrappy fashion with some particularly subdued play from both sides, neither side seemingly wanting to push forward and the ball not really getting into either box.
It was Buxton who made the break, catching Colts snoozing and planting the ball into the back of the net with ease to make it 1-1.
This was the only time that keeper Danielle Spencer was troubled and it seemed to kick Colts back into gear as they pressed forward once more with some impressive footwork from Wilson.
Then a corner was cleared by the Buxton defence with Rippon heading the ball straight back into the danger zone for Georgia Winson, taking no prisoners, to bury it in the top corner.
Colts now dropped to three at the back to preserve the lead and take the game 2-1, with the victors keeping them in second spot, hot on the Magpies’ tail.
The girl of the game award went to Gracie Wilson for covering every inch of the pitch.
