Girls count the cost of missed chances

Wirksworth Colts Girls under 11s locked horns with Buxton Pellets at the weekend in a 2-2 draw, another fantastic spectacle for all involved.

Wirksworth drew first blood as a good start resulted in Jasmine Millward firing one in off the post.

Colts continued to press and maybe should have gone further ahead but for some great goalkeeping from Buxton’s goalkeeper.

The second half was much the same as a handball resulted in Georgia Winson slotting a beautiful free kick in from 20 yards, to send the Colts’ fans into raptures.

As Wirksworth sought further goals, they were undone at the back as the Buxton striker beat the immense Amie Johnson to hand Buxton a lifeline.

Jade Kirk kept Wirksworth’s lead as she made a couple of cracking saves. Colts had chances to extend their lead but lacked an end product.

In the very last minute, Colts’ hearts were broken as Buxton wriggled through to score, giving Jade Kirk in goal no chance.

The game was one sided and the Colts will rue letting the two slips cost them.

Georgia Winson was girl of the game for her non-stop running and great finish.
