Anthony Gell School’s Under 13s girls have won the npower Indoor Football Tournament, staged at Pride Park, finishing undefeated after their seven games.

The talented team from the Wirksworth school won six and drew one game as they progressed through to the final.

They then went on to beat West Park 5-2 in the final, an outstanding achievement, as West Park have three of their team members playing for the Derby County Centre of Excellence.

The Anthony Gell School team was made up of Grace Bradbury, Jordan Spencer, “Wiz” Bevan Beirne, Grace Wilson, Becca Rippon, Emma Lawrence, Danielle Spencer and Katy Giggs.

They all played well against very tough opposition and they certainly had their shooting boots on as Emma, Becca and Wiz scored three goals each and Katy hit a magnificent 30 goals.

The school’s Becky Harvey was proud to accompany the team and said: “All the members of the team showed outstanding sportsmanship and they were a credit to AGS.

“I’d also like to mention Matty Dranfield and Harry Markwell, who came along as trainee managers and helped me no end with formations”.

The girls now go on to represent Derbyshire in the regional finals and on this form their opposition had better watch out.
