Budding young footballers from Wirksworth descended on Pride Park to take part in a community tournament organised by Derby County and Derbyshire Police.
Derby County in the Community (DCITC) and officers from Derbyshire Constabulary’s Safer Neighbourhood teams (SNT) joined forces to stage the event, with 31 teams across the county taking part.
Officers from the Wirksworth and Middleton SNT took two teams of local teenagers to the tournament. Free sessions have been held on Fridays at Anthony Gell School, and will run for seven weeks in the summer, thanks to joint police and district council funding.
Pc Doug Eyre of the Wirksworth and Middleton SNT, said: “The tournament was a great opportunity to put their skills into practice. The teams worked really hard and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
