Riddings Rovers turned in a great performance on Saturday to book their place in the coveted Cavendish Cup Final.

Courtesy of an own goal and an Artur Gugala strike, player/manager Mark Turner’s rampant Rovers defeated Laburnum 2-1, who fought hard against the home team with Saints’ Andy Clifton netting. It sets up a May Day Monday final against Wirksworth Albion.

In the Matlock & District Football League, The King’s Arms were in great form as they defeated a poor Harveys Bar 9-1 at Crich. Goals came from Kyle Johnson (two), Dan Bennett, Scott Gregory (two),

Pete Berrisford (two), Ricky Wood and Sam Barsby, with Tom Swift getting the scant consolation for the visitors.

Shirland Miners Welfare were worthy winners over Black Hippo on Cavendish Playing Fields as Dale Heggarty bagged a hat-trick with Andrew Spencer and Steven Boot adding to the 5-2 tally. Hippo’s Lee Boden hit a double for the home team.

Wirksworth Albion had to battle hard for their 3-1 victory over Matlock Town Youth and admitted to having ‘a but of luck’ in the second half. Craig Wheeldon, Dave Vinall and Josh Vallance scored for the home team while Jordan West struck for Matlock.

Points were shared as Darley Dale Lions and Hilcote United played out a 2-2 draw. West Harrop and Matt Allsop scored for the Lions while Dan Ryan and Dan Fisher were on target for Hilcote who were disappointed with their performance. The young guns of Tibshelf earned a 3-1 victory over AFC Lea Holloway at Lea Green with a brace from Daniel Hough and another from Brendan Williams. Matt Jowsey netted from the home team.

Tomorrow (Friday) night sees the Manor Pharmacy Final between Laburnum Saints and Wirksworth Albion at Matlock Town’s Causeway Lane ground, kick-off 7pm.

League action on Saturday includes Matlock Town Youth v AFC Lea Holloway, Hilcote United v Shirland Miners Welfare, Woodthorpe Rovers v Tansley, The Kings Arms v Riddings Rovers, Laburnum Saints v Harveys Bar and Wirksworth Albion v Black Hippo.
