Laburnum FC 3
CCS Industry 2
Laburnum returned to league action and winning ways with a good home victory against spirited opposition.
Laburnum started brightly with an urgency that had been missing from their previous fixture and took a deserved lead when a good free-kick from Jim Holmes was partly saved by the keeper and Chris Toplis followed up to score his first goal for the club.
The lead was doubled soon after when Jimmy Thompson sent Ben Haulksworth clear. He raced from the halfway line and beat the keeper with confidence. Laburnum then started to give away free kicks and corners which enabled Industry to use their physical advantage, rewarded with a well-placed header.
Industry started the second half with confidence and although Laburnum did create chances, it was no surprise when a well-worked goal brought the game level.
The introduction of Jak Thornley and Mark Stokes for their debuts showed the increased strength of Laburnum’s squad and both had an impact.
With ten minutes left, a great ball from Keauno Hanlon released Ben Haulksworth, who fired home the winner.
