MATLOCK Town under 19s will be looking to round their season off on a triumphant note when they take on Radford in the league cup final on Tuesday, April 19.
The match, to be played at Long Eaton United’s Grange Park ground, will kick off at 7.45pm and the lads go into it in fine fettle after recording a 3-1 win over ‘oldest club in the world’ Sheffield FC at the weekend in the North Midlands Under 19s League.
This has been a tricky season for the side. Their relegation to Division Two was recently confirmed, although with 16 members of the 22-man squad currently aged 16, it was always going to be a tough ask. Nevertheless, the final league game of the season was memorable as they overcame a poor first-half performance to take the points in rousing style. After the break, Matlock were top class, dominating their opponents.
Chris Hearne opened the scoring on 55 minutes. Then, on the hour mark, he was brought down in the box and slotted home the subsequent penalty. Matt Wilkinson’s lob from the edge of the box made it 3-0 and a late consolation did little to dampen spirits ahead of next Tuesday’s cup final.
