Spireites Blogger: Chesterfield are one winning streak away from the play-offs

Chesterfield pocketed a point at Rochdale, which was a disappointing result on two accounts.

Yet again Chesterfield failed to win a game, when they played well enough to have taken the 3 points, with Paul Cook’s men rattling the wood-work, having a goal disallowed and denied what looked a blatant penalty in the last seconds.

Rochdale subsequently nearly scored a winner with the last kick of the ball. Keith Hill had top scorer Bobby Grant’s bull’s-eye 25-yard special to thank, as they preserved an unbeaten start in Keith Hill’s second spell at the club.

Rochdale are one of the highest scoring teams in the division, so only conceding goals can be the reason to why they are in the bottom half.

Despite going behind after Jay O’Shea scored his third goal in four games for Chesterfield, Rochdale have now conceded just once in their first two games under Keith Hill, and that’s the reason why he’s a great manager, and why I think it’s going to be tough to stop Rochdale’s upward momentum towards the play-off pack.

Chesterfield are six points off the play-offs, despite signing contracts with five players with the potential to play in a higher division in my book this January!

Chesterfield have scored 10 goals in their last 14 away matches, with just one goal from a current striker away from home, all season long!

Both Keith Hill and Paul Cook are the right men to lead their respective clubs forward in my eyes. Chesterfield have won just five of their 17 games against the current bottom half, and won just four of 17 away games this season.

Also, it said on the Football League Show that Chesterfield are the only team in the Football League not to win a penalty this season!

There was evidence in this game, and the arrival of Armand Gnanduillet means that Chesterfield will get the ball in the box more often.

Chesterfield have many of the best players in the division, and are just one big winning streak away from the play-offs!
