Chesterfield’s highly-rated young winger Tendayi Darikwa faces around a month on the sidelines as he prepares for surgery tocure a hernia problem.

The 21-year-old saw a specialist on Tuesday after reporting a groin problem that forced him to go off early in the second-half during last weekend’s game at Rochdale.

A bilateral inguinal hernia was diagnosed and he will go under the surgeon’s knife next week.

Spireites physio Jamie Hewitt said: “It’s a common injury in football so it doesn’t cause undue concern. The recovery time is around four to five weeks.”
