Chesterfield duo Armand Gnanduillet and Richard Brindley were left out of Saturday’s trip to Barnet after talks over new deals with the club broke down.
Spireites chief executive Chris Turner confirmed: “We tried to secure both players on new contracts last week and were hopeful that the business would be concluded on Friday.
“Unfortunately, negotiations broke down when the agency involved advised Armand and Richard against signing the deals they had been offered. It was subsequently decided that neither player would travel with the squad to Barnet.”
Gnanduillet and Brindley are both out of contract at the end of the season.
The club confirmed they have returned to training and will be in contention for Saturday’s crucial game at home to Bradford City.
