Warnock has joined the promotion-chasing Rams on an 18-month contract from Leeds United and immediately set out his ambitions to make it back to the top.

The Ormskirk-born left-back has played at the highest level for Liverpool and Aston Villa during a 12 year career, which has seen him play more than 350 games.

“My contract was due to run out with Leeds at the end of the season and there was no shortage of talks about extending the deal,” he said.

“Derby came in for me and the rest is history.

“I enjoyed my time at Elland Road, but my ambition is to play in the Premier League again and I believe I can do that at Derby.

“The club is ambitious, has great facilities and is well backed by the men who are putting the money in.

“The club is geared up for the Premier League and why I wanted to come here.

“The squad has got plenty of quality, but it is a young squad and I hope to bring experience to the team that they can learn from.”

Warnock, who will sit out the weekend game with Nottingham Forest, also aims to learn from new boss Steve McClaren to aid a possible path in to management after his career ends.

Added Warnock: “I want to learn from Steve McClaren. I am at an age now where I want to learn from managers to see how they get the best out of players.

“Hopefully I can take that in to a future management career.

“I have got a few years left playing in me, but learning from managers is something you have to be mindful of.”
