The 2011 Matlock & District Football League season kicks off on Saturday, September 3, with expectations high and an increase in teams from last year.
With the Chesterfield & District Football League dispanding during the summer, the Matlock & District League’s committee has worked hard behind the scenes to try to ensure that some of these teams can continue to play football locally this season.
As a result, it has been confirmed that there will now be two leagues of 11 teams, with the introduction of the likes of Chesterfield Town FC (1st team and reserves), All Inn FC, Hopflower FC, Shirebrook Rangers FC, Alfreton Athletic FC, Matlock Sports FC, Cromford Reserves FC, Codnor Miners FC and AFC South Wingfield.
The new season kicks off on Saturday with the aim of keeping grassroots football right at the heart of the community, and committee members are confident that, with the addition of these new teams to existing talented sides, the league is starting the new season with a very bright future.
This weekend’s fixtures are: Hellison Trophies Division One – Darley Dale v Shirland MW, Woodthorpe Rovers v Laburnum, Alfreton Athletic v All Inn, Hopflower v Shirebrook Rangers, Chesterfield Town v Hilcote United.
Solar Press Division Two – Tansley v Black Hippo, AFC South Wingfield v Cromford Res, Matlock Sports v Chesterfield Town Res, Lea Holloway v Riddings Rovers, Codnor Miners FC v Hurst Farm Utd.
