Title-chasing Aston United returned with a bang after an absence from Midlands Regional Alliance, Premier Division action of more than a month because of cup commitments and postponements.

Aston, last season’s First Division champions, won 3-1 at Allestree thanks to goals from leading scorer Shay Wiggins, Jordan Sanders and Joel Isaac to make it eight wins from nine and consolidate third place in the table, just two points behind leaders Sandiacre Town.

Sandiacre Town kept their place at the top with their seventh straight league victory. A hat-trick by Gavin Spencer ensured a 3-0 success over Newhall United at Gertrude Road.

Rowsley 86 remain in second after a 5-0 victory over basement side Tibshelf, courtesy of goals from Andrew Roome, Liam Hallam and Sam Hoskin, along with a brace from Noah Evans, while Wirksworth Town enjoyed a 4-0 win over Bestwood Miners Welfare thanks to a Callam Lytham double and singles from Jack Riley and Rob Inckle.

Elsewhere in the division, Cromford made it back-to-back league wins after overcoming Little Eaton 3-1 with goals from Daniel Wildgoose, Scott Gascoyne and Ady Kershaw.

In Division One, leaders Shirebrook Rangers moved five points clear as they claimed a 2-0 home victory over Doe Lea AFC. Mark Turek and Tim Everett netted the goals.

November’s team of the month Derby Singh Brothers also started December in emphatic fashion after they romped to a 6-2 victory over a Sherwin side that haven’t won in their last five league outings. Jason Lester and Paul Tyers scored for struggling Sherwin.

Meanwhile, bottom side Newhall United Reserves picked up their first points of the season after they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Wirksworth Town Reserves. Joe Clarke netted for United.

In Division Two, Shirebrook Rangers Reserves climbed back to the summit, leapfrogging out-of-action Ambergate by securing a 4-1 victory over Sherwin Reserves thanks to two goals from Scott Patterson and efforts from Luke Collier and Ryan Simpson.
