Unbeaten run comes to an end

Wirksworth Colts 1

Hayfield 4

STRONG winds in Hayfield’s advantage and Danielle Spencer, the Colts’ number one keeper going off in the first five minutes with a sprained wrist, plus two fortunate goals via strong gusts and one cracking volley resulted in Wirksworth finding themselves 3-0 down at half-time, having hardly ventured into Hayfield’s half.

The second half saw Colts back in the game and pushing forward, putting pressure on Hayfield’s defence with Jess Amis and Phoebe Hytch going close.

Defenders Gracie Wilson and Chelsea Elliott were magnificent and, after a great pass from Emma Lawrence, Becka Rippon got a goal back with a great overhead kick into the top corner.

However, with everyone pushing so far forward, Hayfield caught Colts on the break and with a one-on-one, stand-in keeper Dione Rapkin was left helpless as Hayfield slotted home.

The last ten minutes were all Colts with Beth Taylor, Elliott and Amis unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

This was Colts’ first blip in a seven-match unbeaten run and every girl gave their all.

Girls of the game awards went to Gracie Wilson and Chelsea Elliott for great defending.
