A NUMBER of fixtures fell foul of the weather in the North Midlands Under 19s League but there was no denying Matlock Town under 19s, as they turned in their best display of the season.

Only three of the scheduled 11 games were played and Matlock managed to turn in a pre-Christmas cracker of a performance.

In Division Two, Matlock were full value for all three points after their 4-0 success at Southwell City. Goals by Ryan Walters (two), Liam Hendley and an own goal were just reward for the Gladiators’ excellent football. True they are still at the foot of the table, but it gives the young side hope for the start of the New Year, when they face a glut of home games.

So the leagues reach the halfway stage of the season with the good weather meaning 70 per cent of league games have been successfully completed.

An exciting January is in prospect for the tense run-in. In the League Cup, the semi-finals stage has been reached while the Mini Shield is now getting started.

The management committee wishes all players, management teams, club committee members plus supporters, a very happy, prosperous, sporting and healthy New Year.
