The sum result of two hours’ hard graft on Friday night and four hours on Saturday morning was 10.4 overs for Matlocks 1sts in Saturday’s Derbyshire County League Division One game at home to Duffield.

During the short period of play possible before the downpour that ended the match, Matlock scored 33-1.

Kev Leatherday (13 not out) and Devon Conway were the not out batsmen, the latter potentially just 88 runs short of scoring his fifth century of the season!

Duffield’s only bowling success as they tried to keep their footing, and control of a wet match ball, was the wicket of Matt Cluer.

He was caught off the bowling of Jordan.

The only reward for each team was six points, which was also the amount awarded to the teams who cancelled matches.

Only Stainsby Hall and Elvaston finished a game and so stole a march on the rest of the league.

The points awarded mean that Matlock are third in Division One, 12 points behind leaders Eckington and seven points adrift of second placed Clifton.

This week Matlock 1sts visit their bogey team Eckington, the current pacesetters, as they commence the second half of the season.

The 2nd XI game with South Wingfield and Sunday’s Wright Cup games were both washed out ,although the latter has to be replayed. The 3rd XI fared no better, their home game being abandoned.

This weekend, the 2nds are at home to Selston in Division 5N and the 3rds make the short trip to Ambergate in Division 9N.
