Matlock-BASED Jesters Fightclub sent member Kent Hargreaves to Barnsley earlier this month for a night of full contact kickboxing.
His opponent was John Johnson Ross of the reputable Chikara gym in Scunthorpe whose pace at the start was relentless but, as the bout moved into the second round, Hargreaves found his superior fitness pulling him through, allowing him to continue with the clean shots under pressure.
Seconds after the start of the third round, Hargreaves landed a fast front kick to Ross’s body, sitting him down in his own corner. Ross got to his feet, only to be dropped again with a head kick from the now fired-up Hargreaves.
Ross took his eight count but was in no fit state to handle the onslaught with a fast boxing combination forcing the referee to stop the contest.
Kent Hargreaves will next be stepping through the ropes in Lincoln on June 26.
Meanwhile, Wirksworth-bred Karl Johnston will be back in the ring under Thai boxing rules in Sheffield on Saturday.
Finally, eight of Jesters Fightclub’s junior students have passed their gradings and received their respective belts. Jack Pugh, Cameron Swain, Brandon Wayne, Declan Ward, Nikki Mold, Tammy Higton and Callum Walsh all succeeded in their exams and will now work towards their next belt.
