YOUNG competitors from across the Dales were in action last weekend as they returned after the Christmas break.
In football, Matlock Town Jaguars U14s who enjoyed a 4-1 win over Chesterfield Town thanks to a fine display by goalkeeper Luke Greenwood and goals from Dan Wagstaffe, Elliott Fletcher (2) and Kit Buckley
Darley Dale Juniors U13s drew 1-1 at Chesterfield Town thanks to Dan Bailey’s free-kick.
Wirksworth Athletic U12s were at home to Wingerworth Buccaneers and emerged with a 2-2 draw, despite being 2-0 down with three minutes remaining.
Late goals from Ollie Prince and Kyle Hadfield sealed the draw, in a game where Athletic also had two goals disallowed.
In junior rugby, Matlock U13s romped to a fine 58-9 win over Sheffield Tigers.
Four tries came in the first-half and six in the second for Matlock who dominated throughout.
Ellis Green, Hayden Williamson, John Statham (2), Harry College, Harry Boyd (2), Andrew Eastwood, Joe Crutterden and Solomon Curran were the try scorers.
Matlocks’ U17s endured a much tighter affair at Chesterfield as they went down 22-19.
Matlock started well and scored the opening try through Ryan Eyre, Rob Ward converting.
Chesterfield replied with an unconverted try but the visitors scored again through Russell Cullum, Ward again converting.
The lead was further extended in the second-half when Mike Ward touched down, Rob Ward converting the extras once more.
But Chesterfield then produced a remarkable fightback to score two tries and a penalty and run out winners by just three points.
