TALENTED young cricketers battled it out on Tuesday at Matlock Cricket Club as they competed in a Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership cluster cricket competition.

Five schools were involved, all of whom had won their local cluster school cricket tournament and progressed through to the regional final.

They were Elton (Matlock cluster), Great Longstone (Bakewell), Parkside (Ashbourne), Wirksworth (Wirksworth) and Hathersage (High Peak) with Hathersage coming out on top of the round-robin competition.

They will now go on to represent the region at the county final, at Derbyshire CC’s County Ground home in June.

Janice Price, manager for the Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership, said: “It was a fabulous day in the sunshine. The kids really loved it and they played with consistency and with the confidence to hit sixes. We had help with umpiring from the club and sports leaders at Highfields Schools helped with scoring, so many thanks to them for their assistance.”
