BUXTON Football Club chairman Tony Tomlinson has heaped praise on his team.
The chairman spoke out after successive wins over league high-fliers Witton Albion and North Ferriby United, following on from successful cup runs by Martin McIntosh’s side in both FA competitions this season.
Domestic results leave Buxton perfectly poised for an assault on the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s top-five as they head into the New Year.
Speaking before the Bucks’ 7-0 Boxing Day win over Stocksbridge Park Steels, Tomlinson said: “Everyone connected with the club must be delighted with the team’s performances, especially in the last month.
“We ran Grimsby awfully close and, now that we are out of the two FA competitions after very good campaigns in both, the management and players have successfully transferred that fine form to the league.
“Convincing victories on successive Saturdays, over sides in the division’s top three, have shown the ability and drive that can take us into the playoff places at least.”
The Bucks next make the trip to Derbyshire neighbours Matlock Town on New Year’s Day (kick-off 3pm).
