Matlock Community Orienteering Club has picked up its first award, just a year after it was formed.
The club came joint first in the Community Sports Project of the Year category, awarded as part of the recent Derbyshire Dales Sports Awards for 2012.
The award recognised the club’s significant contribution for sport and recreation and, in particular, the location at Arc Leisure Matlock the regular participation of parents with their children, the variety of formats used, including climbing wall and bike orienteering, local orienteers giving their time to help, the first national orienteering apprentice coach, a volunteer taking part as part of Duke of Edinburgh scheme, a junior completing their Brownie badge, teaching orienteering training for staff supporting disabled people, taster sessions at local primary schools and cross country events, and success in the Derbyshire Schools Championships.
If you would like to come along to the club, which meets at Arc Leisure Matlock on Wednesdays during term time, from 6.30pm-8pm, admission is £2 for adults and 50p for juniors.
