WATER POLO COLUMN: Three new developments in last week and this, have underlined the optimism and future thinking of the club going forward.

Sportivate sessions started last Wednesday and will continue for the next five weeks. A grant aided scheme designed to get 14 to 25-year-olds into sport has been embraced by the club offering qualified coaching and a go at the game.

Sunday saw the return of the junior sessions run by the club’s development officer Richard Sellors.

“It is great that we can provide these again and this time we have a permanent spot,” commented Richard after coaching last week.

These classes take place between 5 and 5.30pm and are available for six to 12-year-olds.

This Saturday, the club’s development squad are planning to take on a similarly levelled Hucknall team at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield. This is the club’s first venture into the town and marks a very exciting plan for all concerned.

Please ring 07814 711372 if you require any information regarding any of these sessions. Meanwhile, new fixture secretary Will Fry is adapting well to using the club’s new ‘bat-phone’ to suggest matches and ask for players’ availabilities. Will, who is more used to loud tannoy announcements to address crowds on platforms, was also apparently getting used to not using a whistle and waving his arms at the time of writing.
