Matlock GC hosts three big events

Three high profile competitions took place at Matlock Golf Club over the last week.

In the Derbyshire Union of Golf Clubs Bretby Cup Bretby Cup, 138 male golfers competed in a four ball better ball stableford competition. The individual team prize winners were Matlock players Graham Coppen and Andrew Hession. In the club team prize Chesterfield 1 were winners.

In the Henriques Memorial trophy 54 golfers competed in the four ball better ball mixed pairs competition. Individual team winners were B and S Trueman from Chesterfield and the team prize was won by Matlock players Carol and David Hill, Denise and Malcolm Morley, Cynthia Machent and Stuart Baker.

On Tuesday Matlock hosted the prestigious three counties Salver Match between the Society of Golf Club Captains of Derbyshire, Cambridge Area, and Leicester and Rutland, Derbyshire being successful in retaining the trophy.

On Wednesday the Derbyshire Golfers alliance held their pro-am competition for the Drabble Shield. Winners were Carl Hayes (Stanedge) and Sean Boyle (Chesterfield). The seniors prize was won by R Farmer and M Cartwright from Sicklehome and the professional prize by K Taylor from Brailsford.

In the men’s inter-club matches; the Captains team played home to Chesterfield winning a closely-contested match 4-2, while Matlock D played in the Taskers Plate quarter-final against Alfreton A beating them 4.5 to 2.5. The seniors maintained their unbeaten record at home with 5.5 to 1.5 win against Cavendish.

In the ladies matches the Bronze team, playing at Maywood, lost to Cavendish, but the Silver team won their inter-club semi-final played at Buxton High Peak against Ashbourne with a 5-0 victory.

In the Junior Medal 8, the winner was Ryan Gebbie and runner-up Abigail Newman.
