A landmark week for Matlock Golf Club was climaxed on Saturday with the official opening of the excellent Floodlit Driving Range and Custom Fitting Centre.

The event was attended by officials, trustees and committee members of the club together with the sponsors of the range and the chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council Peter Slack.

Club chairman Peter Beardsley officially cut the ribbon on the range entrance, supported with drive-offs by president Eric Grattage and captains Ian Marr and Louise Jones.

Club professional Christian Goodman then gave a demonstration of the custom fitting facilities to all present followed with a lunch and speeches in the clubhouse.

On Sunday the Club held its annual Open Day, where a number of people took the opportunity to view the golf course, driving range and crown green bowls facilities.

In the Captain’s away day at Holme Hall, a large group of members attended.

Team winners of the am-am two players from three competition were captain Ian Marr, assistant professional Lucas Davis and Ian Annable with 80 points.

Individual prize winner was hole-in-one specialist Brian Stacey with 39 points.

In other competitions, Steve Cammack, Sue and Vicky Clarke and Dennis Clarke won the mixed four-am open competition which saw a full field competing, while in the in house competitions the men’s medal 11 winners were Danny Hardy (Division 1), Peter Shield (Division 2), Chris Sharpe (Division 3), Gareth Johnson (Division 4) and Alan Turner (Veterans)

In the inter-club matches the vice captain’s team had a convincing 5-1 victory over Dore and Totley at home.
