MATLOCK 2nds held on by the skin of their teeth on Saturday to claim a draw at Swanwick Hall in Division 5N of the Derbyshire County League.
Having won the toss, Matlock took to the field, Andy Ogden getting the breakthrough early on.
Tom Watkinson came into the attack, tearing in with great pace and accuracy and soon had the Swanwick batsmen hopping around. With Ogden and Watkinson bowling well and backing Swanwick into a corner, it took something fairly spectacular to give them a fighting chance, and Kyle Green smashed his way to 27 runs, seeing Swanwick to a total of 111-7.
Matlock reached 46-1 in reply, and were cruising.
Then Dave Coxhead’s quick left arm spin was introduced and the match turned as he dismissed three batsmen for no score and 46 -1 soon became 48-5. Andy Roberts (19) had an unlikely partnership with Tom Coey to take the score to 68. The final nine balls had to be negotiated by Watkinson and Steve Haslam to earn the draw at 76-9, earning six points.
