Matlock runners are in fine form once again

In calm, dry but humid conditions, Mick Moorhouse ventured to the Staffs Moorlands for the Calton 8.8k/244m fell race on Tuesday evening.He finished first MV60 in 41.54.

There was a very hot evening for the Tunnels and Trails 10k Charity Race, organised by Wirksworth Running Club. First lady was Ceri Stewart of Wirksworth RC in 43.45, while for MAC Andy Lessiter was an impressive seventh and third MV40 in 40.18 and 15th was Simon Flitter (41.55). Jacob Cousins was first JM in 44.59, Nick Harrison finished in 46.00 and Julie Goodwin was first FV45 in 49.29. In the fun run, Matlock’s Oscar Cousins won in 8.13 in a field of 51 runners.

The Grindleford 4.5 mile fell race saw MAC’s Karl Webster finish in 35.55, 17th overall and third MV40, while Mick Moorhouse and Steve and Sian Mead also had good runs for MAC.

Las Friday saw the fourth Annual Hairy Helmet Relays at Darley Park in Derby. MAC entered seven teams of four runners and strong performances saw the juniors, male vets 160, mixed vets 160 and male vets 200 win their categories, meaning MAC scooped nearly half of the nine categories available.

Ed Hoon ran for two teams and led the junior team of John Webster, Ted Philips, Lizzie Wester and himself to victory.

The senior team of Hoon, Simon Flitter, Dennis Belbin and Zak Hodgkinson finished with a highly creditable time. The fastest MAC time was recorded by Hodgkinson in the male vets 160 team as he led them to victory - Karl Webster, Alan Pickering and Chris Hallas also involved.

The three members of last year’s winning male vets 200 team of Simon Croft, Martin Lea and Jim Thorneycroft were joined by John Hurley and they retained their title in fine style.

The mixed 160 team of Christine Howard, Jade Himsworth, Rob Allen and Peter Wilmott saw them storm to the age group win, with Himsworth running the quickest MAC ladies time.

A similarly strong showing came from the mixed vets 200 team of Julie Goodwin, Jan Forrester, Dennis Holmes and Gavin Simmons and the ladies team of Michelle Lester, Andrea Priestley Laurie Croft and Karen Morley.

The Cromford Killer and Kanter took place on a very hot morning on Saturday. Winner was MAC’s Zak Hodgkinson (20.20) in blistering form, breaking the course record by 40 seconds. Also representing MAC were Peter Wilmott (5th), Dennis Holmes (9th), Toby Gill (10th) and Spencer Whittle (12th)

Also on Saturday was the Bosley Rose Queen Fell Race (7.5k/250m), Matlock’s Mick Moorhouse second MV60 in 39.27.
