Matlock’s young golfers mark season’s end

To celebrate a very successful season the junior members of Matlock Golf Club assembled to play a range of competitive matches prior to the junior presentation.

Whilst the Cadets played in a five hole Texas Scramble, those with CONGU Handicaps challenged the lady captain’s team in an 11 hole 4-ball better ball format which resulted in a comprehensive victory for the juniors team.

Following the competitions, the junior members and their families and friends along with junior organisers Raili Turk, Paul Mooney and John Gregory welcomed club captain Bob Cash and lady captain Helen Brown to a buffet which was followed by the presentation of the trophies.

In the CONGU category there were medal wins for Daniel Latimer, Abbie Newman and Tom Mooney. It was a very special year for Tom who also won the Winter League trophy, Junior Scratch Cup, Junior Section Cup the Junior Nett Aggregate Cup and, partnering Tom Fennah, won the Junior Foursomes Cup.

The Thornton Junior Matchplay Trophy was contested by Alex Taylor and Abbie Newman which, in a closely contested match , Alex emerged as a 2 &1 winner. Ryan Gebbie and Oliver Brown won the Junior Fourball Matchplay Trophy.

In the Junior handicap category there were medal wins for Tom Fennah and Luke Stafford, Tom also recorded the Best Net Medal Score off the junior tees.

The most improved junior player of the year was Tom Fennah with the most improved CONGU player of the year being Abbie Newman. The Junior Player of the Year was Tom Mooney.

There was special mention for the Junior Cadets who had all worked hard over the summer with the Junior Rookie of the Year Award going to Seb Perez.

Following the presentations 2014 junior captain Ryan Gebbie thanked everyone for their support throughout the year and introduced the 2015 junior captain Abbie Newman along with her vice captain Tom Mooney.
