Medal season begins at Matlock Golf Club

The medal season commenced at Matlock Golf Club recently with the Men’s Medal No1.

The club and course was exceptionally busy with a full card of 147 members participating in the medal.

Some blustery weather and hail showers prevailed and as a result conditions proved difficult.

Results were: - Div. 1 winner - Graham Coppen 68 (1) 67, 2nd Andrew Hession 72 (3) 69, 3rd Phil Evans 72 (3) 69;

Div. 2 winner - Brian Walker 81 (13) 68, 2nd GJ Dicken 79 (11) 68, 3rd N Woodhead 81 (10) 71;

Div. 3 winner - Chris Gregory 86 (18) 68, 2nd James Luckraft 88 (18) 70, 3rd Paul Edwards 88 (18) 70;

Div. 4 - winner Andrew Binns 91 (20) 71, 2nd J Wheatcroft 95 (23) 72, 3rd Patrick Fawcett 91 (19) 72.

In the ladies Medal No1 16 members played in the competition.

Shelagh Lancaster won with 83 (13) 70, 2nd Sadie Clayton 105 (33) 72, 3rd Ruth Rastrick 81 (7)74.

The Bader Cup Foursommes was played the follwing day in very difficult, windy conditions.

The course was in excellent condition when 24 mixed pairs competed in the club qualifying round of the Bader Foursomes Cup.

The winners were Sadie Clayton and Les Mooney with 44 points. Runners-up were Sheila Allen and John Davenport with 39 points.

Winners go forward to the regional qualifier at Nottinghamshire Golf Club on July 29.

In the inter-club matches, the seniors played at home against a Chatsworth side enjoying a convincing victory of 5.5 to 1.5.
