A busy time for golf club

THERE was plenty of activity at Matlock Golf Club last week with golfers of all ages pitting their wits against the course.

The Matlock Invitation Day Stableford Competition was held on Sunday, May 29, in blustery conditions, with the course proving to be in superb condition, offering some excellent scoring.

The winners were vice-captain Mike Rapkins, partnered by Andy Whittle from Shirland, with 46pts.

There was also a great atmosphere on Tuesday, May 31, when 76 entrants took part in the annual Matlock Golf Club Junior Open.

Three nett 64s made for a very interesting finish with Jamie Booth from Tapton Park GC taking the Best Overall Nett and the Matlock Junior Open Trophy on a countback.

George Biggin (1st nett Div.1) from Chapel-en-le-Frith GC and Oliver Hoffmeister (1st nett Div 2) of Tapton Park GC managed the other two 64s.

James Morrell of Matlock GC won the Boys Best Gross and the Daily Telegraph Qualifier with a gross 69, nett 67

In the girls section, three net 74s were involved in a countback with Lydia Ingman (Tapton Park GC) taking 1st nett on a countback from Ruth Rastrick of Stanedge GC, and Kerry Yates of Horsley Lodge GC missing out.

Jodie Peacock of Rufford Park GC won the Girls Best Gross and the Daily Telegraph Qualifier with a gross 77 nett 73.

Prize winners were presented with their awards by Matlock Golf Club captain Don Heathcote.

The overall winner was Jamie Booth of Tapton Park GC (gross 74 nett 64).

Best boys gross was James Morrell of Matlock GC Gross 69 nett 67 and second was Oliver Breeze (Bondhay GC) gross 74 nett 65.

Best girls gross was Jodie Peacock of Rufford Park GC (gross 77 nett 73).

In the boys Division One, first was George Biggin (Chapel en le Frith GC) gross 76 nett 64, second was Alex Fitzpatrick (Hallamshire GC) gross 76 nett 66 and third was Liam Waring (Ashbourne GC) with gross 77 nett 68.

In the boys Division Two, first was Oliver Hoffmeister (Tapton Park GC) gross 77 nett 64, second was Charley Mycock (Buxton & High Peak GC) gross 84 nett 67 and third was Ben Edgson (Matlock GC) gross 88 nett 68.

The first girls nett was Lydia Ingman (Tapton Park GC) gross 86 nett 74, second was Ruth Rastrick (Stanedge GC) gross 83 nett 74

Other prizes were given for girls and boys nearest the pin, longest drives and also the overall best front nine holes and back nine.

Finally, the Matlock Seniors Open pairs 4BBB Stableford Competition, was held on Wednesday, June 1, in calmer conditions.

With the course playing equally well again, high Stableford scores were achieved and the winners were Bob Carter and Brian Bates from Ashbourne with 45 pts.

Matlock Golf Club will also be hosting the Matlock Open on Sunday, June 12.

This is a pairs 4BBB medal, at £30 per pair.
