Active start to the year

THE Milford Duathlon is to take place on New Year’s Eve consisting of a run of 2.5 miles followed by an 11.3 mile bike loop and a second run, starts from the Milford Social Club at 10am but is already oversubscribed.

However, the new duathlon relay on January 2, from the same venue and on the same course, still has a couple of places available.

The New Year’s Day Hangover Five-Mile Road Race starts from near the Derwent Hotel, Whatstandwell, at 11am and has always been a popular way for joggers to start their new year in a positive frame of mind despite the course being quite hilly.

Finally, the opening fell races of the year take place from 10.30am in Peat Pits and Shining Cliff Woods at Ambergate on Sunday, January 8, with runs for those aged six years upwards. Often, the oldest runners is well into their 70s. The event HQ is the Bear Inn, Alderwasley.
