Anglers out in high winds

The rod average decreased a little last week at Carsington Water, reflecting the extreme weather conditions braved by many anglers.

The strong winds didn’t stop those wishing to fish and the rod average was 5.2 with 509 fish caught by 97 anglers. The best brown was caught by Paul Wade at 5lbs.

Due to the high wind conditions blowing from the north end of the reservoir, most were caught on the east side of the water from Sitch plantation down to Upperfields Bay in the shelter. Shinningford Bay has seen many fish caught.

Floating and Intermediate lines using a slow or fast retrieve method have proved successful using the following fly patterns; hot head damsels, Montana, orange blobs, black tadpole, bibio, hares ears, diawl bach and black buzzers.
