Bakewell bow out with win

West Bridgford 17

Bakewell Mannerians 52

MANNERIANS 1sts rounded off their Midlands Two East (North) season with a handsome victory on their travels to Nottingham.

Bakewell had the benefit of the slope and wind in the first half and used it pretty well to earn a 26-10 lead by half-time.

The points came from tries by Tom Oldfield, Joe Williams, Tom Crapper and Henry Bagshawe, plus two conversions by Will Moroney.

After the break, Bakewell knew they would have to work hard to preserve their advantage while playing up the slope.

Tom Bell was first off the mark with a try for Mannerians to make it 31-10 and Tom Oldfield soon grabbed his second try, converted by Moroney.

Just after the hour-mark, Oldfield completed his hat-trick of tries and Moroney’s kick extended the lead to 45-10.

A converted try for the home side reduced the deficit slightly but Mannerians ended on a high, in Mark Burnett’s last game in charge as coach, when Tom Bell went over and Moroney kicked the extras to complete a fine win and complete the season with Mannerians ending in sixth place.
