Bakewell Golf Club members have been out in force for their annual dinner dance, once again held in the elegant surroundings of the Hassop Hall ballroom.
Club members and their guests attended the event to meet new Club Captain Adrian Fewings and Lady Captain Janet Smurthwaite, who organised an especially lively evening.
Club Vice-Captain Bob Straw performed as Master of Ceremonies and later he and the Lady Vice Captain Yvonne Vaines raised a good sum on the raffle.
Club captain Adrian Fewings described how he had grown into a successful golfer after spending his youth devoted to many other sports.
He then introduced special guest David Edwards, who described the highlights of his early life as a club professional with some notable successes.
David is now a world-famous “trick” golfer, showing the audience how to hit 311 golf balls in just under three minutes using two clubs, one in each hand, driving with a six-foot driver, hitting tennis shots, including a service, with a golf club, hitting a drive off a brick, finally hitting a drive off a tee held in the mouth of a brave volunteer.
He also did perfect imitations of Colin Montgomerie, Ian Poulter and Miguel Angel Jimenez on the tee.
He has been asked to demonstrate his skills with the golf club at the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, two Dubai World Championships and numerous Opens all over the world.
Lady Captain Janet Smurthwaite brought the formal proceedings to an end by thanking all who attended for their generosity towards the club.
The party then rocked to the ear-splitting sound of The Rapids for several hours of dancing until the early hours of the morning.
The evening was just one of the club’s lively social round of activities, attended by golfing and social members. For more details about what’s going on there, you can go to www.bakewellgolfclub.co.uk for more information.
