Bakewell Golf Club Juniors have enjoyed a very successful year, as clearly demonstrated on Junior Presentation night.
Club captain Alf Price, lady captain Val Cousin and junior captain Lauren Webster presented trophies and awards to over 30 junior members.
The president, David Brock, highlighted extraordinary successes which included the Junior Captain winning a place in the Midlands Final of the National Skills Challenge, last year’s Junior Captain, Emily Hudson, winning both Ladies Scratch Cup and the Junior Centenary Plate, the latter with a gross score of 72, a Course Record for the Ladies New Course, and Mikey Oliver being selected for the Derbyshire Under 12s Squad. He also praised the superb coaching, led by PGA Professional Craig Pollard.
The captain remarked on the extraordinary progress made by the juniors, some of whom represented the club in county and captain’s matches.The lady captain congratulated and thanked Lauren for a well-run section and presented her with a silver spoon for the largest reduction in official handicap during the year of 12 shots.
Lauren reported on her year in office and on club competitions, and congratulated the juniors in retaining the JUCAP Trophy, the annual match between the Junior Team and the Captain’s Team.
PGA Professional Craig Pollard reported on the coaching programme and presented awards to Harry Hay and Jack O’Toole.
The Club Captain and Lady Captain presented trophies to the juniors with official handicaps and the Junior Captain presented trophies to members with “club” handicaps.
