A full but inexperienced squad took to the water at champions-elect Hucknall A on Monday, as coach Richard Sellors returned for the first time since the shattering semi-final defeat of two weeks ago.
Hucknall A are the reigning Notts League champions and look favourites to pip Southwell to the title again this year.
Their 25-4 victory against a Matlock team focusing on youth and improvement will go a long way towards that probability as we near the final phases of the season.
In this game, the Derbyshire side took the lead a couple of times and played well in the first half of the game before the familiar third quarter collapse made the scoreline look worse than the reality.
Sam Pyne played his first game for over two years and Jack Wood gave his best display to date.
All club members were delighted after the game that rumours Richard Sellors had joined the French Foreign Legion were unfounded.
Matlock now have no further Notts League games until September.
The tournament in Belgium at the end of the month is the next priority.
