It was good to see so many members from Carsington Fly Fishing club turn out for the club’s first competition this season.
The fish weren’t put off by the sunny weather over the weekend as there were quite a few catches. The rest of the week did have some testing conditions with a few windy days but still most anglers weren’t deterred and commented on an enjoyable day’s fishing.
The rod average for last week was 5.3 with 539 fish caught by 102 anglers.
The best rainbow of 7lb 12oz was caught by Keith Pigott of Carsington Fly Fishers. The best brown of the week was caught by P Allison, weighing 2lb 12oz
The top area for this week has been over the far side with catches from Millfields and then all along the far bank to the Sitch Plantation area. Within Brown Ale Bay, there have also been a few catches. Over the weekend, the Tower Bank fished particularly well.
On Saturday, Carsington held the Troutmaster Fish Off event for all the people who entered Troutmaster with fish caught there. The anglers taking part went head to head to see who could catch the heaviest bag of six fish in the shortest time.
The competition was closely fought with Andrew Stratton catching his limit quite quickly but no significantly heavy fish so the pressure was then on for Shane Calton to catch a heavier bag. Only a few ounces separated the two bags at the end of the competition, which was won by Andrew Stratton with a bag of 13lb 2oz.
Carsington is a Troutmaster water for 2011 so if you think you have caught a large fish, you can register your catch by filling in an entry form available from the Fishery.
Boats can leave the jetty from 8.30am. All boats are back to the jetty by 8pm. Please allow a few minutes to return from your fishing spot.
