On Saturday, Matlock started their league season off by entertaining a very youthful Newark team but eventually went down to a 3-0 defeat.

Matlock went into the encounter with a very depleted squad and soon had to call in players from the third team as Nina Smedley limped off and Sarah Wain received a ball to the eye.

Despite various attacks and penalty corners, Matlock were unlucky not to convert them into goals but soon went a goal down when the Newark forwards were allowed to walk the ball into the goal.

With more Matlock players arriving at half-time, coach Jon Barry tried his best to re-organise the squad but sadly, despite trying to build up attacks, the Matlock players were outplayed by the Newark team, who went on to win the game 3-0.

Thoughts now turn to the next game, away at West Bridgford, when the seconds hope to see an end to the injuries, allowing this young Matlock squad to return to winning ways.
